Help grow Friends membership this month by bringing your friends to Mia with you.
Bring friends to Mia in February and introduce them to the Friends. It’s a great time to escape the cold temperatures and enjoy yourselves at Mia while helping our Friends membership to increase each month by encouraging our friend to join us at Mia.
Be sure to attend the Friends Lecture Series in Pillsbury Auditorium on Thursday, February 8 at 11PM. Mia Curator and Head of the Department of Photography and New Media, Yasufumi Nakamori will present “Exploring Humanity through ‘The Family of Man’.”
While on your way to the auditorium:
- Stop by Miao Clothing and Jewelry from China on exhibit in Gallery 218,
- Look at “I Am Somali”: Three Visual Artists from the Twin Cities in Gallery 255,
- Wander up to Gallery 353 to an exhibit of Minnesota artist George Morrison: Drawings and Small Paintings,
- Stay for the 1PM public tour of A Celebration of African Art in History.
The Friends support the museum in many ways, by providing free public lectures, buses to bring schoolchildren to the museum for docent tours, artwork for the permanent collection, and funding for innovative children’s art education programs. Our major fundraiser, Art in Bloom, helps to make this support possible. To become a member, follow this link.

Patty McCullough and Sue Stillman
Co-Chairs of the Friends Membership Committee
We recently emailed many renewing members to thank them for continuing to be a Friend. During this process we found a number of our Friends who do not have an email listed or had an incorrect email address. We were able to reach many of you to correct this. However, there are always some Friends who move or change their email or telephone number, and since we have become digital they will not receive our newsletter or eblasts. We urge you to keep us up-to-date on how we can reach you. Sometimes emails from organizations like the Friends end up in your junk mail, so a quick check is often in order!
Some members who do not have an email address receive a hard copy of our newsletter each month, and we are happy to send this to those without access to email.
Don’t hesitate to call the chairs of the Membership Committee with a problem: Patty McCullough ( 612-374-8915) or Sue Stillman
(651-452-2134.) We want ALL our members to be kept informed of the exciting events going on in the Friends!
You are invited to our annual Friends 101 to be held Thursday, November 5, at 10 a.m.
There will be coffee and treats in the Wells Fargo Room, and you will learn something new about the Friends from our speaker, Carolyn Dahl, Friends President from 2011 to 2013. In addition, our Art in Bloom chairs for 2016, Carrie Kilberg and Barbara Scott, and Friends-Only chairs, JeanMarie Burtness and Shelly McGinnis, will tell us what they are planning for the Friends this year.
A short tour will follow with Assistant Curator of Textiles, Nicole LaBouff. She will guide us to the Fountain Court where the textiles of Helena Hernmarck are installed.
To attend please call the Friends Office at 612-870-3045. You will meet Friends old and new and learn a bit more about the Friends of Mia.
