As fall approaches, we want to welcome new members, as well as thank those who renewed their membership over the summer months. If it’s time to renew your membership, please take a moment to do so by clicking this link or calling 612.870.3045. We appreciate your support!
Would you like to know more about what the Friends do? Please join us for Friends 101, a conversation about the history, activities, and opportunities available through the Friends. Whether you’re new to the organization or have been around for a while, we’d love to see you there! This free event is scheduled for Tuesday, November 1, from 11 to 11:45AM followed by a brief tour of the new textiles exhibit in the Regis Fountain Court. It is a special opportunity to learn about the art and context of 19th – early 20th century American quilts from a nationally renowned expert, Mia’s Assistant Curator of Textiles, Nicole LaBouff. FRIENDS MEMBERSHIP Special
Become A Friends Member at Art in Bloom!
We are looking forward to seeing you at Art In Bloom from April 28-May 1, and are pleased to say that we are discounting our membership to $35 from $45 during Art in Bloom’s four glorious days! You may already be a Friends member but this is the perfect time to spread the word to your circle of friends and acquaintances.
Did you know that a Friends membership supports, sponsors and provides:
Mia’s educational programs, special projects, installations, exhibits and the acquisition and conservation of art;
Volunteers for Friends, museum functions and projects, and the ever-growing Transportation Fund, covering bus costs for more than 10,000 children from Twin Cities area schools for educational tours; a variety of activities for Friends only; and Art in Bloom is the Friends annual fundraiser, bringing more than 40,000 visitors to Mia while raising money to provide us with many events and programs that compliment Mia’s goals and objectives.
As a Friends member receive this digital monthly newsletter and invitations to Friends Only events and news, as a bonus you will meet new people who share the same experiences you enjoy!
We look forward to seeing our old Friends and having new Friends join and participate at Art in Bloom 2016. Stop by the Membership Table to say hello to our volunteers. Spread the good word–but remember this offer is for new members only, not renewals! See you at Art in Bloom.
Patty McCullough and Sue Stillman
Co-Chairs of the Friends Membership Committee
THANK YOU TO OUR RENEWING MEMBERS
We recently emailed many renewing members to thank them for continuing to be a Friend. During this process we found a number of our Friends who do not have an email listed or had an incorrect email address. We were able to reach many of you to correct this. However, there are always some Friends who move or change their email or telephone number, and since we have become digital they will not receive our newsletter or eblasts. We urge you to keep us up-to-date on how we can reach you. Sometimes emails from organizations like the Friends end up in your junk mail, so a quick check is often in order!
Some members who do not have an email address receive a hard copy of our newsletter each month, and we are happy to send this to those without access to email.
Don’t hesitate to call the chairs of the Membership Committee with a problem: Patty McCullough ( 612-374-8915) or Sue Stillman
(651-452-2134.) We want ALL our members to be kept informed of the exciting events going on in the Friends!
FRIENDS “101”
You are invited to our annual Friends 101 to be held Thursday, November 5, at 10 a.m.
There will be coffee and treats in the Wells Fargo Room, and you will learn something new about the Friends from our speaker, Carolyn Dahl, Friends President from 2011 to 2013. In addition, our Art in Bloom chairs for 2016, Carrie Kilberg and Barbara Scott, and Friends-Only chairs, JeanMarie Burtness and Shelly McGinnis, will tell us what they are planning for the Friends this year.
A short tour will follow with Assistant Curator of Textiles, Nicole LaBouff. She will guide us to the Fountain Court where the textiles of Helena Hernmarck are installed.
To attend please call the Friends Office at 612-870-3045. You will meet Friends old and new and learn a bit more about the Friends of Mia.
New Member Directory
We are excited to announce that we are in the process of making a new membership directory. Our membership directory will list email and home address, as well as phone numbers, for each of our members. This is a frequently used tool to help facilitate volunteering in our wonderful organization. If you would not like your information shared please contact the Friends Office at friends@artsmia.org, or 612-870-3045. If you do not contact us, we will include you automatically in the directory.
We look forward to having the directory available to you this year.
A Membership Apology
This message is for Friends members who have recently had confusion surrounding their membership renewal and were asked to renew their membership when they called on the 15th and 16th of August and September to obtain lecture tickets.
Mia has been undergoing changes to their membership system, and the membership committee wants to assure you we are doing our best to see this does not reoccur. We apologize for any inconvenience.
