Mia trustee and very generous Friend Martha Head hosted a delightful garden party at her home on Lake Minnetonka this past July. The gardens were magical, the food was yummy, the weather was picture perfect, and absolutely none of those pesky summer bugs were anywhere to be seen! Martha’s gardener spoke, sharing expertise and encouraging all present to ask questions. All proceeds gained from this much anticipated evening were directed to the support of the Delacroix painting Friends purchased for Mia.
Mia’s wonderful Art in the Park program began in July. The Friends organization has been happy to provide funds for supplies as well as volunteers to work with children and families who attend.
Carla Temple and Faith Hlavac were quick to sign up for the first event on July 21st at Kenny Park in Minneapolis. When asked how the event went, Faith responded, “It was both a joy and an honor to represent Friends of the Institute at the Kenny Park Festival. I had so much fun engaging with the children who visited our booth. Their creativity and imagination were so inspiring. I also loved that we used postcards so their artwork could be shared with a friend or a loved one. Nothing like a fun surprise in the mail! Thanks again for the opportunity to connect with the community. I’m looking forward to the next one!” Carla added, “It was so enjoyable to be part of the Friends family that supported Art in the Park.”
Friends volunteer Lisa Mayotte signed up to assist at Armatage Park exclaimed, “I had a wonderful time working with the fun group from Mia on Saturday afternoon. It was great to get to know the Mia team, and the kids were outstanding. We have fantastic little artists in our community, and they did flock to our table. Mia is doing a great service by bringing art out to the community.”
This program continues through part of September serving several parks throughout the city. A few volunteer openings may still be available. If you are interested, please contact Claire in the Friends office at 612-870-3045 for more information.
