Rochester Friends’ 40th Anniversary

The Rochester Friends of the Institute is turning 40, and you’re invited to celebrate with them!

In the summer of 1981, art lover and Rochester resident Patricia Weeks and her husband joined a tour to China led by Mia’s Department of Asian Art chairperson, Robert Jacobsen. This life-changing journey inspired Pat to explore forming a group to support the museum. She gathered a group of her friends who enthusiastically embraced the idea, and the Rochester Friends of the Institute became a reality in November 1982.

With around 60 currently active members, the Rochester Friends has monthly meetings with lectures – often curators from Mia who speak about current exhibitions. Members frequently make the trip to Minneapolis for monthly lectures, and the organization generously provides coffee and treats for the Friends’ pre-lecture social hour in the Mia Fountain Court every month.

To commemorate this beginning, the Rochester Friends have planned a 40th Anniversary Celebration with a lecture and luncheon.
